Historical Preservation

 
Purpose:

The purpose of the Historical Preservation Committee is to preserve the rich heritage of the water industry and further the possibility of a water museum.  The committee's function is not only to preserve artifacts, but also the personal knowledge and experience of the retired membership.

 

Committee Membership:

The Historical Preservation Committee consists of AWWA members, each with a demonstrated interest in the promotion and preservation of the heritage of the water industry.

    Functions:

    A primary function of this committee is to further the possibility of a water museum at the City of Grand Rapids, Monroe Avenue Filtration plant site.  This activity may include:

    • Preservation of the historic structure
    • Conversion of the plant to provide:
      • a research laboratory
      • a pilot plant for potable water treatment research
      • Section offices and archives
      • a water industry museum

    The committee also seeks to identify other historical preservation sites and determines whether conversion of the site to another use is desirable or necessary.
