Water System Security

 
Purpose:

The Water System Security Committee of the Michigan Section of the American Water Works Association has adopted the mission of:

  • Maintaining a high level of knowledge regarding the safety and security of public water supply systems.
  • Ensuring that Michigan water supplies have access to the necessary resources to adequately plan and prepare for potential threats.
  • Fostering an ongoing and continuous vigilance on the part of utilities, regulators, and legislators to ensure that the issue of water system security maintains a high profile.

Functions:

The Committee has formulized the following general goals:

  • Develop and issue via Water Works News or other appropriate means “Water System Security Resource” informational bulletins to disseminate information relative to water system security.
  • Obtain input from a broad cross-section of utility and water industry interests, to gather information on security issues affecting those on the “front lines” of water system operation and maintenance.
  • Identify and provide support for research, funding, or other needs related to water system security.
