Water Treatment Practices
 
Purpose:

The purpose of the Water Treatment Practices Committee is to evaluate the service of the Section to the treatment segment of the Michigan water industry, to identify needs, and to plan and implement programs to improve Section services in this area.

 

Committee Membership:

The Water Treatment Practices Committee comprises 5 or more members, all of whom are directly involved in the operation, design, or furnishing of equipment for water treatment facilities.

Functions:

  • The committee draws upon the experience and knowledge of its committee members to determine the needs of large, medium, and small water treatment plant operations.  The committee may also use membership surveys or other methods, as needed, to identify areas where plants could benefit from AWWA information.

  • The committee also works toward the following goals described in the Strategic Plan:

  • Sharing information and experience with members on alternative approaches to centralized water treatment; and

  • Working with water treatment plant personnel and regulatory staff to seek out and evaluate new regulations and water treatment technologies. 

  •  The committee accomplishes this goal through a variety of methods, including:

  • Giving or arranging presentations of interest to water treatment personnel at AWWA Michigan Section venues

  • Providing articles, presentations, and other materials to the Water Works News and the Section website

  •  Sponsoring competitions that highlight new operating practices (Gimmicks and Gadgets award).
