Council Participation Survey

Here is your chance to get more involved with the future of the Michigan Section, AWWA.  The Strategic Planning Team has completed our new plan for the Section and we have established our 6 new Councils that will be actively involved in the implementation of the strategic plan.  So what can you do?  We are currently looking for members to participate in our Councils either as Council leadership or as a Council member.  This is a great opportunity to show your support of the Section.  So how can you get started?  Well, take just a couple of minutes and complete our Council Participation Survey.  Using this tool you can select where you think that you might be best able to help, either just a little or a lot.

Welcome Our New Executive Director

I am pleased to announcement the hiring of the Michigan Section’s first Executive Director.  As many of you are aware, the Michigan Section revised its strategic plan in 2013 and a critical component of that plan was to hire an Executive Director to lead the Section.  As part of evaluating the challenges and opportunities faced by the Section in the coming decade, the Section Board decided that a strong leader was necessary to allow the Section to grow and remain competitive.  We have found that leader in Bonnifer Ballard.

Bonnifer Ballard

Bonnifer comes from the American Nuclear Society, located outside of Chicago, where she served as the Director of Communication and Outreach.  She has worked in the nonprofit sector for nearly 20 years in a variety of leadership roles.  Please check out the summer issue of Water Works News for a more complete bio including Bonnifer’s experience and interests.  Bonnifer began her employment with MI AWWA on July 1, 2014 and is busy trying to make her rounds to attend committee meetings in an effort to meet all of you.  Of course Bonnifer will be at our Annual Conference in September.  Please join me in welcoming her to the water industry and the Michigan Section of AWWA.  I am confident that you will be impressed with her leadership capabilities, vision, and fresh perspective.

In the coming months, Bonnifer will be tasked with learning the Section’s business.  We are fortunate to have a little over 6 months of overlap between our current Business Operations Manager (Eric Way), Assistant Business Operations Manager (Dave Timm), and Bonnifer.  This will provide Bonnifer time to familiarize herself with the significant training and conference programs that the Michigan Section offers, and to ensure a seamless transition in Section staffing.

These are exciting times for the Michigan Section AWWA, and I look forward to your continued support and commitment as we position ourselves for the future.

Thank you,

Brian Steglitz, P.E.

Director, MI Section AWWA
