One Water – Wastewater Treatment

In the fifth session we will explore the basics of the Clean Water Act (CWA) and how it pertains to preserving/maintaining the integrity of Michigan’s waters. Participants will learn about the various stages of treating wastewater at a POTW (publicly owned treatment works) facility and the disposal/recycling of waste materials (biosolids) generated in the process. Participants will get a tour of a wastewater treatment facility where they can explore the various stages of wastewater treatment and the laboratory analysis that helps support treatment efforts.
Learning objectives:
-Gain understanding of the various parts of the CWA and how they influence decisions and actions taken
-Identification of various steps in the wastewater treatment process
-Gain understanding of the laboratory analysis performed for compliance
-Gain understanding of the processing and use of biosolids
