Register today for Michigan Water and Wastewater Professionals Workforce Week webinars!
Water is one of our most valuable resources in Michigan and necessary to sustain life. Governor Gretchen Whitmer officially designated the week of December 8 -14, 2025, as Water and Wastewater Professionals Workforce Week to recognize the important role these critical water and wastewater professionals play in keeping the water running through our pipes and treating wastewater each day. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is hosting three webinars during this week. Join us as we celebrate those responsible for ensuring safe and reliable water to Michigan residents and treating our wastewater to protect our lakes, rivers, and streams.
All webinars will be recorded, but to obtain Continuing Education Credit (CEC) you will need to attend the live webinars and answer the poll questions conducted in each webinar.

The presentation will describe the intent behind solids inventory control methods for activated sludge treatment plants. Methods of control will be discussed including FM ratio and solids retention time along with how these methods are implemented to maintain steady state treatment condition in the presence of variable plant loadings. In addition, there will be a focus on problems associated with lack of proper solids inventory control and how it can impact the ability of a plant to meet the most stringent total nitrogen removal permit limits. This hour-long webinar is brought to you by EGLE with technical assistance from Wichita State University.
This webinar is approved for 0.1 CECs in the technical category for municipal wastewater operators.
Join us for a collaborative discussion with water and wastewater industry partners. During this webinar, we will have representatives from Michigan American Water Works (AWWA) Association, Michigan Water Environment Association (MWEA), Michigan Rural Water Association (MRWA), and Rural Community Action Partnership (RCAP) to share what resources and training opportunities are available to operators and communities.
This webinar is worth 0.1 Managerial CECs for water and wastewater operators.
This session will discuss three topics which include cybersecurity funding, cybersecurity in the water industry and emergency response planning. Presenters will discuss how funding from the state and local cybersecurity grant program can aid water and wastewater supply systems with addressing cybersecurity risks and threats. This session will also discuss cybersecurity in the water sector, scenario-based infiltration of a water system, cybersecurity best practices, and the benefits of a cybersecurity assessment. The session will conclude with a discussion on how utilities and communities can be best prepared to respond to emergency events.
This webinar is worth 0.1 Managerial CECs for water and wastewater operators.
