Multiple Public Services Positions

Position Responsibilities: 

The Department of Public Services (DPS) is responsible for a wide variety of tasks that are essential to the operations of the Village. Employees of the department maintain the Villages six parks, approximately 27 miles of roads, parking lots in the downtown district, the water supply and distribution system, the sanitary sewer collection and wastewater treatment systems, the storm sewer collection system, and the civic center site.

Positions Available:

The Village has multiple positions available and the actual classifications filled will be based upon the qualifications of the candidates hired. Below is a summary of the positions, related qualifications, and pay ranges. Complete details, including job descriptions, will be provided to those applicants selected for interviews.

Wastewater Treatment Plant (1 Vacant Position)

  • Laborer ($20.14 – 25.07 hourly) – entry level, see minimum application requirements
  • Maintenance Operator 1 ($22.46 – 28.99 hourly) – all of the above, plus 1-2 years related experience and Michigan Class D Wastewater Operator License
  • Maintenance Operator 2 ($24.28 – 31.03 hourly) – all of the above, plus 3-5 years related experience and Michigan Class C Wastewater Operator License

General Operations (3 Vacant Positions)

  • Laborer ($20.14 – 25.07 hourly) – entry level, see minimum application requirements
  • Maintenance Operator 1 ($22.46 – 28.99 hourly) – all of the above, plus 1-2 years related experience, and CDL B with tanker endorsement
  • Maintenance Operator 2 ($24.28 – 31.03 hourly) – all of the above, plus 3-5 years related experience and one or more of the following: Michigan S4, D4 or F4 water license, stormwater operator, or pesticide applicator license
  • Water Plant Operator ($26.60 – 33.98 hourly) – all of the above, plus Michigan D2 or F2 and S4 water licenses with the ability to obtain the S2 license within 36 months
  • Crew Leader ($26.60 – 33.98 hourly) – all of the above, plus Michigan D3 or F3 and S3 water licenses and the ability to obtain the D2 or F2 and S2 licenses within 36 months
  • Landscape Specialist ($26.60 - $33.98 hourly) – CDL B, pesticide applicator, and 3-5 years of landscape experience

The Village offers competitive pay and benefits, including:

  • Competitive wages ranging from $20.14 to $33.98. Placement in classification and pay scale depends on qualifications at time of hire.
  • Top of the pay scale in any classification is reached in 5 years or less
  • Rotating paid on-call time, with 3 hours additional pay per day plus opportunity for additional OT & use of work vehicle

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants for the positions should possess the following minimum qualifications at the time of application. Positions other than entry-level have additional requirements, as outlined in the recruitment brochure available at www.villageofmilford.org/jobs. Equivalent combinations of experience and training may be considered.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must live within 20 miles of the Village of Milford within 12 months of employment
  • Experience using a variety of different tools and equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
