Lab School for Water Operators

Offered: Rotating (location varies)  |  Format: In-Person  |  Audience: New Operators Preparing for F-4 Certification, Experienced Operators Refreshing Lab Skills  |  Competency Tier(s): Tier 4, Tier 5

Lab School is a hands-on training experience designed to help water operators build confidence and competency in the laboratory and prepare for the practical portion of the F-4 state certification exam. Participants move through an abbreviated, combined review of essential chemistry and bacteriology concepts before diving into guided lab work covering sample collection, testing methods, and the procedures operators encounter in real drinking water systems. Whether you’re stepping into the lab for the first time or returning to sharpen skills you haven’t used in a while, Lab School offers a practical, supportive environment to learn by doing.

Water Bacteriology Short Course

Offered: Rotating  |  Format: In-Person  |  Location: Wilson Talent Center, Mason, MI  |  Audience: Water Operators and Laboratory Staff  |  Competency Tier(s): Tier 4, Tier 5

The Water Bacteriology Short Course provides focused, practical instruction in the bacteriological testing methods and procedures essential to safe drinking water operations. Held at the Wilson Talent Center in Mason, this course is offered on a rotating basis, the next scheduled offering is Summer 2027. 12-Week Course: Applied Hydraulics

MI-AWWA’s Applied Hydraulics course provides a structured, in-depth exploration of hydraulic principles as they apply to water distribution and treatment systems. MI-AWWA’s Basic Chemistry course offers an in-depth, structured learning experience for water professionals looking to build or strengthen their foundational understanding of chemistry as it applies to drinking water operations. Spread across 12 weeks, the course gives participants dedicated time to work through complex concepts with instructor support at a pace that allows for real comprehension and retention.
